Beijing Sightseeing Ideas

Through the information that we were given and then exploring on our own some, here is how I would group some activities together based on their locations.

  • Forbidden City & Wangfujing St
    • They’re on the same subway line (line 1/red line)
    • Try Tiananmen West for the stop (as opposed to East) as it may be slightly less crowded. Wangfujing has its own stop.
    • Wangfujing has the food street with interesting cuisines. You’ll also find shopping (both market style and mall style). The Beijing APM mall is especially nice for poor air days.
  • Jingshan Park and Beihai Park
    • You’ll get a great view of the Forbidden City from Jingshan Park and Beihai Park is about 200 meters away (it’s the water area you see from the top of Jingshan Park).
    • Take the subway to Luogu and walk through the hutongs from there.
  • Summer Palace
    • This is an all day event.  If you take the subway, it takes a little longer to get out that way.  There is lots of walking to do as you have the little town at one entrance, walk up and then down to the water.
  • Temple of Heaven & Pearl Market
    • You get off at the same subway stop to visit both of these places.
    • Keep in mind there is an old building and a new building for the Pearl Market.
  • Hutongs, Bell Tower/Drum Tower, Lama Temple, & Confucius Temple
