How true is that saying? I’m all for change but I never expected to have such a huge life change. If you were to tell me that one day I would be living in another country, I don’t think I would believe you. If you were to tell me that one day I would live on the other side of the world in China, I most certainly wouldn’t believe you. Yet, look at me now. I’m living on the other side of the world in Beijing…and I rather enjoying living here!
When my husband and I began this process that would take us overseas, I was quite hesitant. I mean, I loved my job, I loved where we lived, I loved being close to family, I loved my friends, I loved my horse. I was quite happy and content with my life so the idea of leaving all that behind to move overseas didn’t exactly excite me.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions from the time we started bidding until we finally moved. Like I said, I wasn’t too excited about the whole idea of moving overseas in the beginning but in time, things changed. The process of bidding took quite some time, and in that time, I became excited and ready for a change. When you think about it, how many people have the opportunity to live overseas? This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for us, so we went forward with this huge change that brought us here to Beijing. While I was still sad to leave behind my family and friends, I knew that there was FaceTime and texting and visits. While I was (and still am) sad to leave behind my horse, I know I found him a good home for while we’re away. Our life will constantly be changing. This is just one of those changes that is bigger than some others.
It’s definitely a change from our previous life in the States, but I must say, it’s not as overwhelming of a change as I thought. At least not here-in Beijing-for me. We all handle change in different ways. It’s up to you as to how you handle that change.
TOTE: Be open to change.
